Choose the version you need

CELPIP General covers Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. General LS covers Listening and Speaking. Check which version your application requires before you build a practice routine.

On PrepSim, choose a full test to rehearse the complete sequence, or choose one skill when you want to work on a specific weakness. General LS uses the same Listening and Speaking pool as General, so changing variants is not a way to get an entirely separate set of questions.

Start with one honest rehearsal

Use headphones, a quiet room and the device you plan to practise with regularly. Complete the microphone check before Speaking. Set aside uninterrupted time and answer without dictionaries, copied templates or help from another person.

Read the task instructions before starting audio or recording. Listen closely on the first playback, keep notes brief, and watch the timer. A full mock is useful because it reveals where your concentration and pacing begin to slip.

Listening and Reading: find the evidence

After the test, review why each incorrect option attracted you. Did you confuse a detail, miss a change of opinion, or select a statement that sounded reasonable but was not supported? Record the reason rather than copying the whole question.

For Listening, note who said what and how their views changed. For Reading, locate the words that support your answer and distinguish the writer’s view from a claim mentioned in the passage. Practise the task types that caused repeated mistakes before taking another full test.

Writing: answer the situation

General includes an email and a survey response. Before writing, identify the audience, your purpose and the details the task asks you to cover. In an email, make the request or explanation easy to follow. In a survey response, state your choice and support it with relevant reasons and examples.

Leave time to check that every required point is present, the tone fits the reader, and sentences connect clearly. Follow the word range shown in the task. Longer writing is not automatically better; unrelated detail can make a clear answer harder to understand.

Speaking: make a clear response under the clock

Use preparation time to decide your main point and two supporting details. For a picture task, describe what you can see before making predictions. For advice or opinion tasks, explain the reason behind your recommendation rather than listing disconnected ideas.

Speak at a pace that allows complete sentences. If you lose a word, explain the idea another way and continue. Practise finishing within the response time instead of memorising one answer and trying to fit it to every scenario.

Turn feedback into your next session

Compare completion, raw objective marks and task feedback separately. An unanswered section says something different from a fully attempted section with many mistakes. PrepSim feedback is practice guidance; estimated levels appear only when enough evidence and calibration are available. There is no combined overall CELPIP score.

Choose one change for the next skill session: shorter listening notes, evidence checks in reading, a clearer email opening, or a better speaking outline. Then take a fresh full test to see whether that change holds under time pressure. PrepSim currently has ten shared forms and prefers relevant unseen forms, although content will repeat after the available pool is used.

  • Use full tests to check pacing and stamina.
  • Use individual skills to work on a specific recurring mistake.
  • Keep a short mistake log with the task, cause and next action.
  • Review scores and feedback promptly; submitted recordings and text are removed after 30 days.
